The Matcha OEM Process

Four practical decisions align the matcha, package, artwork and delivery plan with your market.

01

Raw Material

Set the use, target price and destination market. We select for traditional preparation, lattes or sweets and test samples in the actual application. A high-grade matcha for water may not suit milk. Blends with sugar or milk powder — matcha latte mixes — are possible by consultation.

APPLICATION TEST
02

Packaging Spec

Choose a stand-up pouch, tin or 2 g single-serve stick, fill weight, print or label method and finish. We confirm the packaging MOQ — sticks differ from the standard formats — and market-specific label requirements.

FORMAT + COMPLIANCE
03

Design

Supply print-ready artwork, or share a direction for our design team. Chanokura-led design requires a separate schedule and fee. Final copy, dielines and print proof need approval.

ARTWORK APPROVAL
04

Delivery Schedule

Once the material, packaging and artwork are approved, we set production and shipping dates. Allow about 2–6 months from project authorization. Early decisions help us secure capacity.

2–6 MONTHS
CAPACITY NOTE

Overseas inquiries have risen quickly since we began serving customers outside Japan in 2026. New-project intake may become limited, so please contact us early.

Why Kyoto Chanokura K.K.

A 200-year tea house,
now building other people's brands.

One of Japan's largest matcha OEM suppliers
Backed by extensive domestic experience supplying major Japanese retailers and manufacturers — the same production that sits behind brands you already know.
Blended by a 10th Dan Master Tea Blender
Keisuke Hori holds the highest rank in Japan's tea appraisal competition — earned by only about 30 people in more than 80 years. Your blend is tuned by him, not by a spec sheet.
Tested in the application, not in theory
We taste your matcha the way your customers will drink it. A high-grade matcha chosen for water can disappear in milk — so lattes, traditional preparation and sweets are each selected for separately.
Overseas OEM track record since 2026
Completed OEM projects for Saudi Arabia and the Philippines, and developed original 30 g tins and 60 g pouches for the U.S. market.

FAQ

Private Label & OEM Matcha — FAQ

Q: What is the difference between private label and OEM matcha?
A: Private label (also called white label) means an existing blend is packed under your brand. OEM means the product itself is developed to your specification — the blend, the fill weight and the package are built for your market. We do both, and most projects start as private label and move to OEM as volumes grow.
Q: How long does an OEM matcha project take?
A: Allow about 2 to 6 months from project authorization to shipment. The range depends on the raw material, the packaging format and how quickly artwork is approved. Deciding early helps secure production capacity.
Q: What is the minimum order quantity for private label matcha?
A: Wholesale matcha starts at 5kg. For a fully original OEM product the MOQ varies depending on the raw materials, and each packaging format carries its own MOQ, which we confirm during the packaging specification step.
Q: What packaging formats are available?
A: Stand-up pouches and tins. Fill weight, print or label method and finish are chosen per project — for the U.S. market we have developed original 30g tins and 60g pouches.
Q: Can you supply matcha in single-serve stick packs?
A: Yes — 2g sticks and sachets are available alongside pouches and tins. The minimum order quantity for sticks differs from the standard formats, so tell us the format early and we will confirm it at the specification stage.
Q: Can you make a matcha latte mix with sugar or milk powder?
A: By consultation, yes. Alongside straight matcha we can look at blends with other ingredients — matcha latte mixes being the most common request. Share the sweetness level, the target cost and whether it is for foodservice or retail, and we will work from there.
Q: What export documents can you provide?
A: Certificate of Origin and Health Certificate. Where test documentation already exists we provide it, and tests not yet carried out — Certificate of Analysis, pesticide residue — can be arranged, provided the testing cost is covered.
Q: Do you design the packaging artwork?
A: You can supply print-ready artwork, or share a direction and have our design team create it. Chanokura-led design requires a separate schedule and fee. Final copy, dielines and print proof require your approval before production.
Q: Which matcha grade should I choose for lattes?
A: It has to be tested in the actual application. A high-grade matcha built for water may not suit milk, so we select separately for traditional preparation, lattes and sweets and test the samples the way your customers will drink them.
Q: Have you produced OEM matcha for overseas brands?
A: Yes. We are one of Japan's largest matcha OEM suppliers by domestic track record. Since starting overseas service in 2026 we have completed OEM projects for Saudi Arabia and the Philippines and developed original 30g tins and 60g pouches for the U.S. market.
Q: What is the shelf life of private label matcha?
A: As a rule, one year from the month of shipment. We recommend refrigerated or frozen storage. Plan your launch window against that, since the clock starts when the goods leave Japan rather than when they reach your shelf.
Q: Can we secure annual volume for a private label line?
A: Yes. Annual contracts are available by consultation, and once a contract is in place we can reserve annual allocation (secured volume) for you. This matters for matcha because the crop is seasonal and good material sells out.
Q: What information do you need to quote a project?
A: Intended use, destination market and target launch date; estimated annual volume and target budget; and preferred package format and fill weight. Sharing the volume and budget at first contact produces a much faster response.
